KHUABUNG

Khuabung is situated in Zophei Region (Zopheiram), Chin State, Myanmar. A group of people from Leitak village arrived at Khuabung about 200 years ago. Before they came to the place where they are living now, one of Mizo’s tribes called Khuabung have lived in it at first. Based on that old name, a group of people who came from Leitak named their new village as Khuabung. Khuabung is bounded on the East by Aibur, Tisen and Sentung villages, West by Zephai, South by Ngalang, Lawngtlang and Lungcawipi, and North by Hlamphei.

The names of first settlers of Khuabung village are Hmun Tling, Van Thang, Sang Hnin, Thang Ku, Ha Bawm and Thla Thang. The current population is about 800. Many of the khuabung descendant are scattered different parts of the world such as India, Malaysia, U.S., Australia, Europe etc. Currently, there are about 180 houses in Khuabung village and most of them are built of wood and galvanized iron sheet (zinc).

The villagers mostly make their living by doing shifting cultivation, elephant foot yam fields and breeding some kinds of livestock. The water which the villagers drink is Khuasing river, and it is a well-known river because of its flowing even in the hot summer. Hunting in the forest and catching the fishes in the river are the ways how the villagers can get the meats. Azui river, Hlamphei river and Thanghawr river are the rivers where the villagers can go to catch many kinds of aquatic creatures.

Chopui Waterfall is one of the most famous beautiful places within the zophei region. It has three lakes called Asuipawli (The youngest Lake), Alepawli(The middle Lake) and Uthuipawli ( The oldest Lake) in Azui river. This place is a very attractive place in Khuabung territory, and many young people often go there for a picnic and take photographs for pleasure. Phapuiphawng, Tlangsangpaw and Lengcungtlang are also other pleasant mountain resorts at Khuabung and they are unique places for those who like to enjoy hiking and trekking to the mountain.

There are two churches in Khuabung village namely New Khuabung Baptist Church and United Pentecostal Church. Lian Kung Memorial Hall in the village is a building that attract visitors as they are built of hewn stones. There is also Rev. Khua Thawng memorial hall which is constructed especially for the visitors to stopover more comfortably while their stay at Khuabung.

From 1979-1984, Khuabung middle school was ranked as the first place throughout the entire Than Tlang Township Middle School. They even took the first position in the whole chin state in 1985 and 1986. At present, there are Basic Education High School and Hospital in Khuabung. The village is brightly lit every night by using hydro-electric power.

Khuabung is a village full of surprises and pleasant village as there are many interesting things to enjoy in it and as the hospitability and friendliness of the villagers.
